Why make a comic about protein?

Protein is one of the essential nutrients your body needs. Everything from your muscles to bones and blood depend on it!

The comic explains:

  • What protein does in your body

  • Where it comes from (hint: it’s not just meat!)

  • How different types of protein can help the planet

You’ll meet friendly characters who guide you through the world of protein, from eggs and lentils to insects and algae.

Protein for a healthy planet

You can find protein in more foods than you might think. It’s in meat, fish, and eggs. But it’s also in a number of plant-based foods, like beans, lentils, nuts, and tofu. There are also new, emerging sources, like algae and insects.

The comic explores these different protein sources, showing how eating a diverse range of protein-rich foods can be healthier and more sustainable!

The team behind the comic

This project was created as part of the OPTIPROT Network. That’s a group of science centres across Spain, including AZTI, our Spanish hub, who help make food healthier and more sustainable.

We believe food education should be creative, fun, and based on real science. The PROTEINS comic helps children, parents, and teachers learn together – and maybe even discover something new for the dinner table!
