Why Activity Weeks?

October is the perfect moment to shine a spotlight on food – the way it’s grown, the way it nourishes us, and the impact it has on our planet. That’s why FoodEducators is excited to launch Activity Weeks (13–26 October 2025), a Europe-wide celebration built around World Food Day (16 October). This is your chance to bring the world of food into your classroom in fun, meaningful, and creative ways.

Food education for a better future

Food is at the heart of many of today’s challenges. Our food systems are responsible for almost one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, diet-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity are on the rise – with more children than ever facing health risks linked to poor nutrition. These problems may seem overwhelming, but education is one of the most powerful tools we have for change. By exploring food together, students can begin to understand how their everyday choices are connected to global issues – and how they can be part of the solution.

What’s in the Activity Weeks booklet?

That’s where Activity Weeks come in. By choosing one (or more!) of our ready-to-use activities, you’ll transform your classroom into a hub of discovery. Students can:

  • Investigate where their food comes from
  • Challenge popular food myths
  • Design their own card game on food systems

Each activity is interactive, age-appropriate, and designed to spark curiosity while encouraging critical thinking. Whether it’s creating a “Food Journey Gallery” of local and imported foods, fact-checking food myths, or building a playful card game from scratch, your students will be learning while having fun.

How your school can join

Getting involved is simple. Just download our Activity Booklet (available in 15 languages) after registering or signing in, pick your favourite activities, and dedicate a lesson or school day to celebrating food. To make the experience even more rewarding, teachers who use the materials and share feedback with us will receive certificates and digital badges to showcase their school’s participation. These are perfect for sharing with parents, municipalities, or on your school’s website and social media.

Don’t miss our webinar

And there’s more! On 13 October at 18:00 CET, FoodEducators and FAO will co-host a special World Food Day webinar for educators. This online event is a chance to exchange ideas with teachers from across Europe, discover extra classroom resources, and get inspired by how others are bringing food education to life. Last year, over 9,000 students and 200 educators took part in Activity Weeks – and this year, we want to make it even bigger.

Let’s celebrate together

Food is more than a subject – it’s a story that shapes our bodies, our communities, and our planet. By joining Activity Weeks, you’re giving your students the chance to become curious explorers of that story. Together, let’s celebrate World Food Day by inspiring the next generation of informed, mindful eaters and future changemakers.
