Sprout to Spoon: A Food Journey Booklet

This engaging and educational summer activity booklet is designed for curious young minds. The resource invites children to follow the delightful journey of a humble pea pod, from being planted in the soil all the way to becoming a tasty treat on their plate.

Through a series of playful, visually rich activities, students will explore each step in the food system—from germination and sprouting, to flowering, harvesting, and cooking. Along the way, they’ll connect the dots, play games, observe plant growth, and even try their hand at making a delicious and healthy snack: pea muffins!

This booklet supports learning about sustainability, seasonal eating, and where food comes from—core ideas that help children understand the world around them and the importance of mindful choices.

You can use this booklet flexibly—as a structured lesson, a summer camp activity, or a standalone project. No prior gardening or cooking experience is needed; just curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to explore.
