FoodEducators School Network

Schools play a crucial role in promoting healthy eating habits and food literacy from a young age.

When students learn about food:

  • They make healthier choices for their bodies
  • They develop empathy for the planet
  • They gain life skills that empower independence and creativity

When students understand food, they grow into informed, mindful, and resilient consumers. It is not enough knowing what’s on their plates. In order to create a healthier and more sustainable future, students need to understand where food comes from, how it’s grown, its nutritional value, and the social and environmental impact of what we eat.


FoodEducators is a EIT Food programme that provides teachers with fun, creative and interesting activities to engage young people, mainly schoolchildren. Our easily accessible, science-based food education materials enhance students' learning so they can become better informed, conscious future consumers.

FoodEducators School Network is a network of schools in Europe contributing to the transformation of healthier and more sustainable food systems by instilling awareness, knowledge and food literacy in their institutions with the support of FoodEducators.

By signing up to be a member, you will have access to:

Food Education Materials. FoodEducators offers learning resources and materials (lesson plans, activity booklets, posters) in 16 languages and across four topics: Food & Health, Food & Sustainability, Food Science & Food Systems, Agrifood Jobs & Careers.
Our materials are versatile and can be used in a traditional classroom setting or as extracurricular activities, e.g. during food-related special days (such as the World Food Day), project weeks or summer camps.

Professional Development for Teachers. The programme offers online and offline teacher training in 15 languages and English-language webinars to support professional development around the topic of food.

National contact points. FoodEducators offers you a national point of contact in 15 European countries.

Networking Opportunities for Schools. Member schools are offered yearly networking webinars to support them in building their international network.

Certifications and Badges. The programme offers certification for teachers and badges for member schools so that they can promote their food-related activities and commitment to the food topic towards various stakeholders (e.g. parents, municipalities, government, etc.).

Become a member now!

Becoming a member of the school network is easy:

Appoint a Coordinating Teacher. The coordinating teacher is the one registering the school in the network and they are the primary contact between the national contact point and the school.
Tasks of the coordinating teacher:

  • Register the school
  • Promote the programme among the rest of the teachers, distribute programme-related information and share updates
  • Report activities that involve the whole school and remind their colleagues to register on the site to access learning resources and report their activities with their classes.

Create your school’s profile page on the FoodEducators website. The coordinator teacher needs to first register on the website as a user and then create the profile of the school. The school’s profile displays the school’s name, address and website link. After registration, your school will appear on the members’ map.

Display FoodEducators School Network badge on your website and publish the description of the programme. You will receive these in the email after the school’s profile is created.

Only a registered user can sign up their school to the network. Log in or register a free account first.

Terms and Conditions for FoodEducators School Network

1. Introduction

By registering your school and participating in the FoodEducators School Network (later ‘the Network’), you agree to comply with the following terms and conditions. These terms govern your school’s membership, responsibilities, and benefits as a member of the Network.

2. Membership Requirements

  • Eligibility: Membership is open to elementary, secondary, upper-secondary, and vocational schools in the FoodEducators countries.
  • Registration: A designated coordinating teacher must register the school, create a profile on the FoodEducators website, and act as the primary contact for communication.
  • Commitment: Member schools commit to promoting food literacy and participating in activities aligned with the Network’s objectives.

3. Responsibilities of Member Schools

  • Coordinating Teacher: Each school must appoint a coordinating teacher responsible for:
    • Creating a personal user profile
    • Registering the school on the platform.
    • Sharing updates and promoting the programme among staff.
    • Reporting food literacy-related activities undertaken by the school.
  • Profile Maintenance: Coordinating teachers must keep their profile updated, including contact details and relevant activities.
  • Activity Reporting: Member schools ensure that they organise and report at least one food-related event annually.
  • Involvement: All staff should be informed about the programme and encouraged to utilise available resources on the FoodEducators website.

4. Benefits of Membership

Membership provides access to:

  • Educational materials, including lesson plans and activity booklets in 16 languages.
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers, including webinars and training.
  • Networking opportunities via webinars and international connections.
  • Certification and badges to showcase the school’s commitment to food literacy education.
  • Optional use of self-assessment tools to evaluate and improve the school’s food literacy initiatives.

5. Usage of Resources

  • Purpose: All materials provided through the Network must be used solely for educational purposes.
  • Restrictions: Redistribution, rebranding or commercial use of materials is prohibited unless expressly authorised by FoodEducators.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, including materials, logos, and badges provided by the Network, remain the intellectual property of EIT Food. Schools should display the Network badge and promotional materials as per the guidelines provided.

7. Communication and Reporting

Member schools agree to:

  • Share updates and success stories related to their food literacy activities with the national FoodEducators Hub.
  • Provide feedback and participate in surveys or assessments to help improve the programme.

8. Termination of Membership

  • FoodEducators reserves the right to terminate a school’s membership if:
    • The school fails to comply with the terms and conditions.
    • There is misuse of resources or misrepresentation of the programme.
  • Schools may voluntarily terminate their membership by providing written notice to foodeducators@eitfood.eu.

9. Liability

FoodEducators is not liable for:

  • Any direct or indirect damages arising from participation in the Network.
  • The outcomes of activities or initiatives implemented by member schools.

10. Amendments

FoodEducators reserves the right to update these terms and conditions at any time. Members will be notified of significant changes and shall review the terms regularly.
